Is the Texas Adult Driver Education Course (ADE) Online or In Person
Driving Logic's Texas Adult Driver Education Course is 100% online. There are no in-person sessions, no classroom requirements, and no scheduled meeting times. You complete the entire course — including the DPS exam — through your web browser at whatever time and pace works for you.
How the Online Course Works
You access the course by logging in at drivinglogic.com from any device with a modern web browser. The course is self-paced. You read the content, complete interactive sections, answer lesson quizzes, and take the DPS exam — all online. The ADE-1317 certificate you receive is identical to what you would receive from an in-person course.
Accepted Statewide
Driving Logic's online course is approved by TDLR and the ADE-1317 certificate is accepted at all Texas DPS driver license offices statewide.
Important: DPS Visit Still Required
While the course itself is entirely online, you still need to visit a Texas DPS driver license office in person to complete the licensing process. At the DPS you will take a vision test, a road test, have your photo and thumbprints taken, and receive your license. The course handles the knowledge requirement — the DPS visit handles everything else.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will the DPS accept an online certificate? Yes. Driving Logic's course is TDLR-approved and the ADE-1317 certificate is accepted at all Texas DPS offices statewide. Online and in-person courses produce the same certificate.
Can I complete the DPS exam online too? Yes. The 30-question DPS Highway Sign and Traffic Law Examination is integrated into the online course. You complete it as the final lesson and do not need to retake the written test at the DPS.
Is there any part of the process I have to do in person? Yes — the DPS visit for your vision test, road test, and license issuance is in person. The course itself is fully online, but getting the actual license requires a DPS appointment.
Can I take this course from outside of Texas? Yes. The course is online and accessible from anywhere with an internet connection. You still need to visit a Texas DPS office in person to receive your license.
What if I prefer an in-person classroom course? TDLR also approves in-person adult driver education courses through other providers. Visit tdlr.texas.gov to find a list of approved schools if you prefer classroom instruction.
