What Is My Citation Number for the Florida Basic Driver Improvement (BDI) Course?

Your Florida BDI citation number is printed on your traffic ticket. It is always 7 characters — a combination of letters and numbers.

Updated today

When you enroll in the Florida Basic Driver Improvement (BDI) course, you will be asked to enter a citation number. Your citation number is printed on the traffic ticket the officer gave you at the time of the stop.

What a Citation Number Looks Like

A citation number is always 7 characters long and contains a combination of letters and numbers — for example, ABC123D. It may be labeled "Citation Number," "Ticket Number," or "Uniform Traffic Citation Number" on your ticket.

Where to Find Your Citation Number

Your citation number is printed on your traffic ticket. If you no longer have your ticket, you may be able to locate it by:

  • Checking correspondence from your attorney, if you have one

  • Logging in to your county's online court portal, if available

  • Contacting the clerk of court in the county where the citation was issued

What If Your Attorney Gave You a Combined Number?

Some attorneys list both the citation number and case number together — for example: 2025-TR-012345, ABC123D

  • The 7-character code (e.g., ABC123D) is your citation number. Enter this in the citation number field.

  • The longer number (e.g., 2025-TR-012345) is your case number. Enter it in the case number field without dashes: 2025TR012345.

What If You Do Not Have a Citation Number?

If you received a letter from the FLHSMV directing you to take the course, or if you are taking the course voluntarily or under a court order that did not produce a citation number, enter seven zeros — 0000000 in the citation number field and continue enrollment.
