Missouri Driver Improvement Program (DIP): Complete Guide
The Missouri Driver Improvement Program (DIP) is an approved online course that prevents points from being assessed on your Missouri driving record after a traffic conviction. This guide covers everything you need to know from enrollment through completion.
What the Course Is
The Missouri Driver Improvement Program is an online course administered by the Missouri Safety Center at the University of Central Missouri. It meets or exceeds the National Safety Council's eight-hour Defensive Driving Course (DDC-8) standard and is authorized under Missouri Revised Statutes §302.302. The course is delivered entirely online — no classroom attendance is required.
Important: Completing the DIP prevents points from being assessed for the qualifying conviction. It does not remove the ticket or conviction from your driving record.
Who Takes This Course
The Missouri Driver Improvement Program is for Missouri-licensed drivers who have received approval to participate — either from a court or through the Fine Collection Center (FCC). You must have approval before enrolling. Voluntary enrollment is not available. CDL holders from any state are not eligible.
Two Approval Tracks
Court-order track: If your case was handled by a judge, you receive DIP approval at your court hearing. Common for municipal and county police citations. FCC track: If your citation was issued by a Missouri State Highway Patrol officer in a qualifying county, you may receive automatic DIP approval when you pay your fine to the FCC — no court appearance needed.
If you are not sure which applies to you, check with the court or FCC for the county where your ticket was issued.
Cost
The course costs $29.94. This is a one-time payment with no additional fees. Full course access, all quizzes, the final exam, and your Form 4444 completion certificate are all included. Driving Logic accepts credit card and Apple Pay at checkout.
How to Enroll
Visit drivinglogic.com/missouri/driver-improvement-program-course and complete checkout. Your account is created automatically and you can begin the course immediately after payment. No software download is required — the course runs in any modern web browser on a computer, tablet, or smartphone.
How the Course Works
The course is completely self-paced and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Your progress saves automatically, so you do not need to finish in one sitting. The course is organized into 6 lessons completed in sequence. Each lesson must be finished and its quiz passed before the next lesson becomes available. The final exam is in Lesson 6.
What the Course Covers
Lesson 1 — Introduction: Risk and risk management.
Lesson 2 — Preparing to Drive: Age, mobility, vision, hearing, illness, medication, emotional conditions, and conditions beyond your control.
Lesson 3 — Distracted and Impaired Driving: Alcohol and drugs, distracted driving, fatigued driving, and aggressive driving and road rage.
Lesson 4 — Successful Driving: The six most dangerous unsafe driving behaviors — improper speed, violating right of way, driving left of center, turning improperly, passing improperly, and following too closely.
Lesson 5 — Collision Prevention: Speed management and managing space to the front, sides, and rear.
Lesson 6 — Driving for Life: Long-term safe driving habits, transporting passengers safely, and the final exam.
How Long the Course Takes
The course is designed to meet the state-required 8-hour length. It is completely self-paced. Most students complete it across one or more sessions spread over a few days. You must complete the course within 60 days of your conviction date to receive the point prevention benefit.
Quizzes and Final Exam
Each of the 6 lessons ends with a quiz. You must pass each quiz with 80% or higher (8 out of 10) before the next lesson unlocks. The final exam has 50 questions and requires 80% or higher (40 out of 50) to pass. Both quizzes and the final exam are open book with unlimited attempts.
Your Completion Certificate — Form 4444
When you pass the final exam and complete all course requirements, Driving Logic emails you Form 4444 as a PDF attachment immediately. There is no in-account download.
Submitting Form 4444 to the DOR
Submitting Form 4444 to the Missouri Department of Revenue is your responsibility — Driving Logic does not do this for you.
