How Does Identity Verification Work in the Virginia Driver Improvement Course?

The Virginia DMV requires all online clinic providers to verify that the person completing the course is the person who registered. Here is how Driving Logic meets that requirement.

Updated today

The Virginia DMV requires all online driver improvement clinic providers to verify that the person completing the course is the same person who registered. Driving Logic uses a four-step process to meet this requirement.

Step 1 — Unique Account at Registration

When you enroll, you create a unique account using your full legal name and email address. These credentials are required every time you log in.

Step 2 — Personal Information Before Starting

Before you begin the course, you must enter:

  • Full legal name

  • Date of birth

  • Virginia driver's license number (format-validated against VA license structure)

  • Citation number and issuing court, if you are court-ordered

This information is used for your completion certificate and verified against your account. Attempts to submit conflicting or invalid data are rejected.

Step 3 — Attestation Before the Final Exam

Before you can begin the final exam, you must electronically sign a statement confirming:

"I affirm that I am the person registered for this course and have completed the coursework and assessments myself. I understand that falsifying identity or misrepresenting my participation may result in my certificate being rejected and referred to the Virginia DMV for further action."

Step 4 — Session Monitoring

Login activity, session duration, and quiz behavior are passively recorded in an audit log. This is used solely for compliance auditing if needed — it is not a primary verification method.

What Is Not Used

The Virginia DMV explicitly prohibits facial recognition, biometric verification, and virtual proctoring as identity verification methods. Driving Logic does not use any of these.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I be asked to show my face on camera? No. The Virginia DMV prohibits facial recognition and virtual proctoring. Driving Logic does not use either.

What happens if I enter incorrect personal information? The system will reject conflicting or invalid data. If you entered incorrect information, contact us at [email protected] before completing the course.

What if someone else completes the course on my behalf? That is misrepresentation under the attestation you sign before the final exam. It can result in your certificate being voided and a referral to the Virginia DMV. The course must be completed by the registered student.
