Who Is Eligible to Take the Indiana Driver Safety Program Course?
Any licensed Indiana driver can take the Indiana Driver Safety Program course. You do not need a specific reason to enroll. Drivers take the course because they are required to, or because they choose to do so voluntarily.
Drivers Who Are Required to Take the Course
The Indiana BMV may require you to complete the Driver Safety Program course if you meet one of the following conditions:
Drivers 21 and older: * You were convicted of two or more traffic offenses within a 12-month period. Drivers under 21: * You were convicted of two or more traffic offenses, or * You were involved in two or more accidents, or * You had a combination of traffic offenses and accidents.
When the BMV requires the course, you will receive a written notice in the mail. You must complete the course within 90 days of the date on your notice. If you do not complete the course within 90 days, your driving privileges will be suspended.
A court may also require you to complete a Driver Safety Program course as an alternative to suspension of your driving privileges.
Drivers Who Choose to Take the Course Voluntarily
You do not need to receive a notice from the BMV or a court order to take the course. Any Indiana driver can enroll voluntarily at any time.

Apply a 4-point credit to their Indiana driving record
Reduce the risk of license suspension
Improve their driving skills
How Often Can You Receive the 4-Point Credit?
The 4-point credit can only be applied to your driving record once every three years.
If you complete an additional course before the three years have passed, you will not receive a second credit. However, the three-year period will restart from the date of your new completion.
