Indiana Driver Safety Program Course: Complete Guide
The Indiana Driver Safety Program course is a BMV-approved online defensive driving course. Completing it applies a 4-point credit to your Indiana driving record. This guide covers everything you need to know about the course from enrollment through completion.
What the Course Is
The Indiana Driver Safety Program course is an online course approved by the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles. It covers defensive driving techniques, Indiana traffic laws, road sharing, and safe driving behaviors across 4 lessons and 24 topics. The course takes a minimum of 4 hours to complete and is delivered entirely online — no classroom attendance is required.
Who Needs to Take the Course
Some Indiana drivers are required to take the course. Others choose to take it voluntarily to earn the 4-point credit.
Required by the BMV: Drivers age 21 and older who accumulate 2 or more traffic offenses within a 12-month period are required to complete the course. Drivers under 21 who accumulate 2 or more offenses or accidents within a 12-month period are also required. Required by a court: Some courts order drivers to complete a driver safety course as part of a traffic or legal proceeding. If a court has ordered you to take the course, confirm with your court that the Driving Logic course satisfies your specific requirement before enrolling. Voluntary enrollment: Any licensed Indiana driver may take the course voluntarily to earn the 4-point credit, regardless of their driving record.
Cost
The course costs $34.95. This is a one-time payment with no additional fees. Your completion certificate, BMV reporting, and full course access are all included. Driving Logic accepts credit card and Apple Pay at checkout.

How the Course Works
The course is self-paced and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Your progress saves automatically every time you complete a section, so you do not need to finish in one sitting. You can log in and out as many times as needed and pick up where you left off.
The course is organized into 4 lessons completed in sequence. Each topic must be finished before the next becomes available. There is no final exam — completion is based on finishing all required course content.

What the Course Covers
Lesson 1 — Driver Challenges and Legal Responsibilities: How novice and aging drivers can adapt their skills, Indiana's license suspension laws and point system, insurance requirements, defensive driving techniques, and driving in extreme weather and hazardous conditions. Lesson 2 — Safe Road Sharing and Traffic Navigation: Sharing the road with pedestrians, cyclists, motorcycles, and commercial vehicles, adapting to urban, rural, and expressway environments, Indiana traffic signals and lane markings, right-of-way laws, roundabouts, and safe following distance and lane change procedures. Lesson 3 — Avoiding Unsafe Behaviors and Managing Driving Risks: Identifying dangerous drivers and using collision avoidance techniques, Indiana's Move Over Law, recognizing and managing aggressive driving and road rage, Indiana's hands-free cell phone laws, and managing electronic and passenger distractions. Lesson 4 — Legal Compliance, Safety Systems, and Impaired Driving: Drowsy driving risks and prevention, how to interact with law enforcement during traffic stops, vehicle maintenance and safety systems, Indiana's child restraint laws, speed limits and seat belt requirements, and Indiana's DUI laws and implied consent requirements.
How Long the Course Takes
The course takes a minimum of 4 hours to complete. Timed sections ensure you cannot move through the material faster than the minimum required time. Most drivers complete the course in 4 to 6 hours. You do not need to finish in one sitting and there is no limit on the number of sessions or logins.
If the BMV required you to take the course, you have 90 days from the date of your requirement notice to complete it. If you enrolled voluntarily, there is no deadline.
Your Completion Certificate
Your certificate is issued immediately after you complete all required course content. It is available in two places — in your account under My Certificates at drivinglogic.com, and emailed to you automatically as an attachment.
Your certificate is issued as a PDF. You can download and print it directly from your account at any time.
Reporting to the Indiana BMV
Driving Logic reports your completion to the Indiana BMV within 24 hours of finishing the course. The BMV then takes 7 to 10 business days to process the report and update your driving record. No action is required from you.
If a court required you to complete the course, Driving Logic reports to the BMV only. Any submission required by your court is your responsibility. Check your court paperwork for instructions.
The 4-Point Credit
Completing the course applies a 4-point credit to your Indiana driving record. This credit offsets points currently on your record — it does not remove individual violations. The credit appears on your record once the BMV finishes processing, typically 7 to 10 business days after your completion is reported.
You can earn the 4-point credit once every 3 years. After 3 years have passed, you may take the course again to earn the credit once more.
Refunds
Driving Logic offers a full refund within 30 days of purchase if your completion certificate has not been issued. Let us know and we can help to request a refund. Refunds are processed within 30 days of the request.
If you enrolled in the wrong course and have not yet completed it, let us know right away. Driving Logic will cancel your order and create a new one for the correct course. If you have already completed the wrong course, it cannot be applied toward a different course.
