How Many Points Does the Indiana Driver Safety Program Course Remove From My Record?

Completing the Indiana Driver Safety Program course applies a 4-point credit to your Indiana driving record.

This credit offsets points currently on your record. It does not erase individual violations or remove them from your history — it reduces your total point count by 4.

How the Point Credit Works

Indiana uses a point system to track traffic violations. Each violation adds points to your record. If your total reaches certain thresholds, the Indiana BMV may require you to take action or suspend your license.

Completing the Driver Safety Program course applies a 4-point credit, which reduces your running total. For example, if you have 10 points on your record, the credit brings your total down to 6 points.

When the Credit Is Applied

Driving Logic reports your completion to the Indiana BMV within 24 hours of finishing the course. The BMV typically takes 7 to 10 business days to process the report and update your record. The credit will appear on your driving record once processing is complete.

How Often You Can Earn the Credit

You can earn the 4-point credit once every 3 years. Completing the course again before 3 years have passed will not apply an additional credit. After 3 years, you may take the course again to earn the credit once more.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the course remove individual violations from my record? No. The 4-point credit reduces your total point count but individual violations remain on your driving record history. Will the credit prevent my license from being suspended? The credit reduces your point total, which may help you stay below suspension thresholds. However, it does not guarantee your license will not be suspended if you have other violations or outstanding requirements. What if I already have 0 points on my record? The credit is still applied but will have no practical effect if your point total is already at zero. The credit cannot create a negative balance.
