What Happens After I Finish the Florida Basic Driver Improvement Course?

When you finish the Florida Basic Driver Improvement (BDI) course and pass the final exam, three things happen automatically:

  • Your completion certificate is issued immediately

  • Driving Logic reports your completion to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) within 1 business day

  • The FLHSMV typically processes your completion immediately upon submission

Your Certificate

Your certificate is available immediately after you pass the final exam. You can find it in two places:

  • In your account under My Certificates at drivinglogic.com

  • In your email inbox as an attachment from Driving Logic

Download and save your certificate for your records. It serves as permanent proof of your Florida Basic Driver Improvement course completion.

Reporting to the FLHSMV

If you elected the Florida Basic Driver Improvement course in connection with a qualifying citation, no action is required from you. Driving Logic reports your completion to the FLHSMV automatically within 1 business day of passing the final exam. The FLHSMV typically processes your completion immediately upon submission.

You do not need to submit anything to the FLHSMV yourself.

If a Court Required the Course

If a court ordered you to take the Florida Basic Driver Improvement course, check your court paperwork carefully. Driving Logic reports your completion to the FLHSMV only — not to courts. If your court requires proof of completion, download your certificate and submit it according to your court's instructions.

If You Want to Use Your Certificate for an Insurance Discount

If your insurance provider offers a discount for completing a state-approved driver improvement course, download your certificate from My Certificates at drivinglogic.com and submit it to your insurance provider directly. Driving Logic does not submit certificates to insurance providers.

If You Took the Course Voluntarily

Keep your certificate for your records. If you took the course voluntarily without electing it in connection with a qualifying citation, points are not prevented through this enrollment. You are eligible to take the Florida Basic Driver Improvement course again in the future if needed.
