What Happens After You Complete the New Jersey Defensive Driving Course
After you pass the final exam and meet all course requirements, two things happen automatically: your completion certificate is emailed to you, and Driving Logic submits your completion record to the New Jersey MVC within 10 business days.
Your Certificate
Your certificate arrives by email at the address you used at enrollment. You do not need to request it — delivery is automatic. If it does not appear in your inbox, check your spam or junk folder. If you still cannot find it, let us know and we can help.
Your certificate is a PDF. You can print it or save it digitally. It is accepted as proof of completion by most courts and insurers. You do not need to wait for MVC processing before providing it to a court or insurance company.
MVC Reporting
Driving Logic submits a certified completion roster to the New Jersey MVC Driver Education and Improvement Unit within 10 business days of your completion date. You do not need to submit anything to the MVC yourself.
Point reduction is applied by the MVC after they process the submission. This may take several weeks after Driving Logic submits the roster. Your certificate is not the same as MVC processing — those are two separate steps.
If You Took the Course for Insurance
If your insurer offers a discount for completing a defensive driving course, provide them your completion certificate directly. Driving Logic does not submit certificates to insurance companies. Contact your insurer to find out how to submit and when the discount will apply.
If a Court Required the Course
Driving Logic reports your completion to the MVC only — not to courts. If your court requires proof of completion, download your certificate and submit it according to your court's instructions.
