What Is the Arizona Defensive Driving Course (DDC)

The Arizona Defensive Driving Course (DDC) is a state-certified online court diversion program. Completing it dismisses an eligible traffic citation from Arizona court records and prevents the violation and any associated points from appearing on your Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) driving record. The course is certified by the Arizona Supreme Court under ACJA § 7-205 and A.R.S. §§ 28-3391 through 28-3399.

How the Course Works

You complete the course entirely online at your own pace. To finish it you must complete all 8 lessons, respond to participation prompts throughout each lesson, answer substantive questions correctly at the end of each segment before advancing, pass identity validation questions that appear throughout the course, and complete the full 4–4.5 hours of required instructional time.

After you finish, your completion certificate is emailed to you and Driving Logic submits your completion record to the Arizona statewide defensive driving database within 1 business day.

What the Course Is For

The Arizona Defensive Driving Course is a court diversion program — it is not a voluntary improvement course taken for insurance purposes only. When you complete the course, your citation is diverted: the violation is dismissed, you do not pay the court fine, and the violation does not appear on your MVD driving record. Completing the course does not remove violations that are already on your record — it only diverts the current pending citation.

What the Course Covers

The course covers 8 lessons including driver attitude and responsibility, Arizona traffic laws, road sharing, impaired and distracted driving, vehicle safety systems, driver condition and human factors, defensive driving techniques, and Arizona environmental driving hazards including desert conditions and monsoon season.

No Final Exam

Arizona does not require a graded final exam for defensive driving courses. Completion is based on active participation throughout the course and correct answers to segment questions. You must answer each segment's questions correctly before advancing to the next section.
