The Texas Driving Safety Course (DSC) is a state-approved 6-hour online course regulated by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). It is also commonly called a defensive driving course. Completing it allows eligible drivers to have a qualifying traffic ticket dismissed and keep the violation off their driving record. It can also be taken voluntarily to qualify for an auto insurance discount.

The course covers the Texas traffic safety problem, driver attitudes and behaviors, Texas traffic laws and procedures, challenging driving environments, defensive driving strategies, driving emergencies, occupant safety systems, alcohol and traffic safety, and human trafficking awareness. The content is required by TDLR and applies specifically to Texas roads and laws.

The course is for two groups of Texas drivers. The first is drivers who received a qualifying moving traffic violation and want to have it dismissed by a Texas court. The second is drivers who want to take the course voluntarily to qualify for an auto insurance discount — no ticket required.
