Can You Skip Ahead in the Texas Parent Taught Driver Education Course

No. The Texas Teen Driver Education Course must be completed in sequence. Each module unlocks only after the previous module is completed and its quiz is passed. The course also enforces minimum time requirements per module — the teen cannot rush through content.

Why Skipping Is Not Permitted

Texas law requires a minimum of 1,320 minutes of documented instructional time across the 12 modules. Allowing skipping would make it impossible to document compliant instruction time, which would invalidate the DE-964 certificate.

What Sequential Completion Means

  • Module 1 must be completed before Module 2 unlocks

  • Each module's quiz must be passed before the next module is accessible

  • The DPS permit exam at the end of Module 1 must be passed before the Permit Certificate is issued

  • The 6-hour daily cap means even the most efficient student takes at least 5 days

Reviewing Completed Modules

The teen can go back and review any module they have already completed. Revisiting completed modules does not reset progress or require redoing quizzes.
