Updated today

Yes. There is a 4-question quiz at the end of each lesson and a final assessment — the official Texas DPS Highway Sign and Traffic Law Examination — at the end of the course.

Lesson Quizzes

Each lesson ends with a 4-question multiple-choice quiz covering the content from that lesson. You must answer at least 3 of 4 questions correctly (75%) to advance to the next lesson. If you do not pass on your first attempt, you can retake the quiz immediately. There is no limit on retakes and no penalty for retaking.

The DPS Exam

The final assessment is the official Texas DPS Highway Sign and Traffic Law Examination — a 30-question multiple-choice exam set by the Texas Department of Public Safety. This is the same written knowledge exam that would otherwise be administered at a DPS driver license office. Because it is built into this course, passing it online means you do not need to take the written test again at the DPS.

Passing score: 70% — at least 21 of 30 correct. Attempt limit: You have 3 attempts to pass the DPS exam. If you do not pass within 3 attempts, you must repurchase the course to try again.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many questions are on the lesson quizzes? Each lesson quiz has 4 questions. You need at least 3 correct to advance.

Is the DPS exam hard? The exam is based on the Texas Driver Handbook, which is also the basis for all course content. Students who work through the course material are well-prepared. Most students pass on their first attempt.

What happens if I fail the DPS exam? Your score and the topics where you missed questions are shown immediately. Review the relevant course content and retake the exam. You have 3 attempts total. If you do not pass within 3 attempts, you must repurchase the course to continue.

What if I fail a lesson quiz? You can retake lesson quizzes immediately and as many times as needed. There is no penalty for retaking and failing a lesson quiz does not affect your 3 DPS exam attempts.

Will I know my DPS exam score immediately? Yes. Your result is shown immediately after you submit the exam. If you pass, your ADEE-1317 certificate is generated. If you do not pass, you will see your score and which topic areas to review before your next attempt.

Do the lesson quiz questions appear on the DPS exam? The lesson quizzes and the DPS exam both draw from Texas traffic law and road sign content, but they are separate assessments. The DPS exam covers content from across the full course.
