How Do I Start the Texas Parent Taught Driver Education Course
Before the teen logs into the course for the first time, two things must be in place: the PTDE Packet from TDLR must have been received, and the parent or designated instructor must have confirmed they meet TDLR eligibility requirements. Once both are done, the teen can log in and begin Module 1.
Before Starting — Checklist
Step | Action | Done? |
1 | Enroll at drivinglogic.com and pay the $69.95 course and certificate fee
2 | Order the PTDE Packet from TDLR at tdlr.texas.gov ($20) and wait for the email confirmation
3 | Confirm the instructor meets all TDLR eligibility requirements
4 | Receive the PTDE Packet email from TDLR
5 | Log in at drivinglogic.com and begin Module 1 |
Do not skip Step 4. Course time completed before the PTDE Packet is received does not count toward the 24-hour requirement.
How to Log In
After enrolling, use the email address and password created at registration to log in at drivinglogic.com. The course dashboard will show Module 1 as the starting point. All modules are sequential — Module 2 becomes available only after Module 1's quiz is passed.
What to Expect in Module 1
Module 1 covers Texas traffic laws and takes a minimum of 6 hours of active instructional time. At the end of Module 1, the teen takes the official 30-question Texas DPS written knowledge exam. Passing at 70% or higher generates the DE-964 Permit Qualification Certificate automatically — no additional steps are needed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the teen start the course before the PTDE Packet arrives? No. Course time completed before the packet is received does not count. Wait for the PTDE Packet email from TDLR before logging in for the first time.
Can a parent log in and go through the course before the teen does? The course account is created for the student. The parent is welcome to preview the content alongside the teen, but the student's time logged in the account is what counts toward the 24-hour requirement.
What if the teen forgets their password? Use the password reset option on the drivinglogic.com login page. If you still cannot recover account access, let us know and we can help.
Is there a deadline to complete the course once started? Yes. Enrollment provides 120 days of access from the date of purchase. If the course is not completed within that window, the enrollment expires. The teen would need to repurchase to continue.
Does the teen need to complete Module 1 in one sitting? No. The teen can log out at any point and resume later. Progress saves automatically. The 6-hour minimum for Module 1 is measured in active instructional time — idle time does not count.
