How Do I Order the TDLR PTDE Packet
The PTDE Program Guide Packet is ordered directly from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) at tdlr.texas.gov. The cost is $20 and the packet is delivered by email immediately after payment. Order it before the teen begins the course — course time does not count toward the requirement until the packet has been received.
How to Order
Go to tdlr.texas.gov
Navigate to the Parent Taught Driver Education section
Complete the online request form with the instructor's and student's information
Pay the $20 fee
Check the email address used during the order — the packet is sent as a download link
If the email does not arrive, check spam and junk folders. TDLR also provides a way to look up and download the packet online using the information submitted during the order.
What Information Is Needed
When completing the TDLR order form, have the following ready:
Parent/instructor's full legal name, address, and Texas driver's license number
Teen's full legal name and date of birth
Email address for delivery
The name entered for the teen must match their government-issued ID exactly. The teen's name on the PTDE Packet will carry through to the DE-964 certificates — a mismatch at DPS will cause delays.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can Driving Logic order the packet for us? No. The PTDE Packet must be ordered directly from TDLR by the parent or legal guardian. Driving Logic does not have access to TDLR's packet ordering system.
What if the teen's name is entered incorrectly on the packet? Contact TDLR immediately. The name on the packet must match the teen's legal government-issued ID. Driving Logic cannot correct PTDE Packet information — only TDLR can make changes.
We already ordered the packet — when can the teen start the course? Once the packet email has been received and confirmed, the teen can begin the course. Do not start before the packet email arrives.
If we have a second teen who needs to take the course later, do we need another packet? Yes. Each student requires their own $20 PTDE Packet from TDLR.
Can the packet be ordered by mail instead of online? Yes, but TDLR mail processing can take 2–3 weeks. Ordering online at tdlr.texas.gov provides instant email delivery. Mail ordering is not recommended if the family wants to start the course soon.
