Your DS-230 certificate does not expire, but Texas courts set their own submission deadlines — typically 90 days from when permission was granted. Submit before your court deadline.

Does the Texas Driving Safety Course (DSC) Certificate Expire

Your DS-230 completion certificate itself does not have an expiration date. However, your court sets a deadline by which you must submit the certificate and your Type 3A driving record — typically 90 days from when permission was granted. Missing the court deadline means your ticket will not be dismissed, regardless of whether you completed the course.

Certificate vs. Court Deadline

These are two different things:

  • Your DS-230 certificate — issued after you complete the course. No expiration date on the certificate itself.

  • Your court deadline — set by your court when they grant permission. Typically 90 days from the date permission was granted. This is the date by which you must submit all documents to the court.

The certificate does not expire, but it is only useful for ticket dismissal if you submit it by the court's deadline.

For Insurance Discount Purposes

If you took the course voluntarily for an insurance discount, there is no court deadline. However, your insurance company may have their own requirements for how recently a course must have been completed to qualify for a discount. Check with your insurer.

Eligibility for Future Use

Completing this course starts a 12-month clock. You cannot use a driving safety course for another ticket dismissal until 12 months have passed from your completion date.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I complete the course but miss my court deadline? Contact your court as soon as possible if you are approaching or have missed your deadline. Courts handle these situations differently — some may grant an extension, others may not. Reach out to us as well and we can help clarify your completion status.

Can I use my certificate for a different ticket in the future? The certificate documents your completion of this specific course. If you receive another eligible ticket more than 12 months after completing this course, you would need to take and complete a new course for that ticket.

Does the 12-month restriction reset from completion date or citation date? The 12-month restriction for ticket dismissal eligibility is measured from your completion date on your certificate. Courts track this using the date printed on your DS-230.

I completed the course but my court won't accept the certificate — what do I do? Contact your court directly to understand the specific reason. If there is an issue with the certificate itself, contact Driving Logic support and we can help resolve it.
