Yes. The Texas Teen Driver Education Course tracks the teen's active instructional time. Texas law requires a minimum of 1,320 minutes (22 hours) of documented instruction across the full 24-hour course. The course enforces timing automatically — the teen cannot rush through content faster than allowed.

The timer only counts time during active engagement with course content — reading, watching, answering questions, and completing activities. If the teen leaves the course open in their browser without interacting, idle time is not counted.

Texas also caps instruction at 6 hours per day. If a teen attempts to do more than 6 hours of classroom instruction in a single day, the course will stop advancing until the next day.

The DE-964 certificate is only valid if the course was completed with proper instructional time documentation. TDLR requires accurate time records. The course system handles this automatically — the teen does not need to manage a separate timer.

Does the timer keep running if the teen falls asleep with the course open? No. The timer only counts active engagement. Idle sessions do not accumulate instructional time.

Can the teen speed through reading to finish faster? No. The course enforces minimum time per section. The teen must spend the required minimum time on each lesson before it advances.

What if the internet drops mid-session? Progress and time up to the last saved point are preserved. Time during a connection drop is not counted. The teen should reconnect and continue from where they left off.

Is there a minimum time per module? Yes. Each module has minimum time requirements set by the state. The course tracks and enforces these automatically.
