Who Writes the Exam

The 30-question exam is the official Texas DPS exam. Driving Logic administers it as a TDLR-approved provider but does not write the questions — the content, question count, and passing score are set by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

What Happens After Passing

Once the DPS exam is passed, the DE-964 6-Hour Permit Qualification Certificate is generated automatically and available for download immediately. It is also emailed to the enrollment address. This certificate is what the teen brings to the DPS to apply for the Learner's Permit — it proves the written exam was passed online.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if the teen fails the exam? The exam can be retaken after a 24-hour wait. There is no limit on the number of attempts and no additional cost. The 24-hour wait applies each time the exam is failed and submitted. The module quiz and all Module 1 content remain complete — only the exam needs to be retried.

Can the teen study for the exam using the course material? Yes. All material on the exam comes from Texas traffic laws covered in Module 1. Reviewing the module content before taking the exam is recommended.

Is the exam timed? No. The teen can take as much time as needed to complete the exam.

Do failed exam attempts affect the certificate? No. The number of attempts is not recorded on the DE-964 certificate.

What if the teen passes the module quiz but is not ready for the DPS exam? The teen can review Module 1 content before starting the DPS exam. The exam does not have to be taken immediately after the module quiz is passed — the teen can log back in and take the exam when ready.
