How Do I Get My 6-Hour Permit Qualification DE-964 Certificate

The DE-964 Permit Qualification Certificate is issued automatically the moment Module 1 is complete and the DPS exam is passed. It downloads immediately as a PDF from the course dashboard and is also emailed.

How Do I Get My 6-Hour Permit Qualification DE-964 Certificate

The DE-964 Permit Qualification Certificate is issued automatically — no request is needed. The moment Module 1 is complete (minimum 6 hours of instructional time) and the DPS written exam is passed at 70% or higher, the certificate generates instantly and becomes available in the course dashboard as a PDF download. It is also emailed to the enrollment address.

What Triggers the Certificate

Both conditions must be met:

  1. All Module 1 content completed with a minimum of 6 hours of active instructional time

  2. The 30-question Texas DPS written knowledge exam passed at 70% (at least 21 of 30 correct)

How to Download It

Log in to drivinglogic.com, go to the course dashboard, and download the DE-964 Permit Qualification Certificate as a PDF. The certificate is also emailed automatically to the address used at enrollment.

Printing — Color Required If Green Background

Before bringing the certificate to the DPS, check whether the certificate has a green background. If it does, it must be printed in color — DPS will reject a black-and-white printout of the green template. If the certificate background is white or black-and-white, it can be printed in B&W.

What to Do With It

Bring the printed certificate to the Texas DPS driver license office when applying for the Learner's Permit. The teen must be at least 15 years old to apply. The DE-964 Permit Certificate proves the DPS written exam was passed online — the teen does not need to take the written test again at the DPS counter.

Important — Name Must Match ID

The name on the certificate is generated from the information entered at enrollment. It must match the teen's government-issued ID exactly. If the name is wrong, contact Driving Logic support before visiting the DPS — a corrected certificate must be issued before the appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions

The teen passed the exam but the certificate has not appeared — what do I do? Check the course dashboard and the enrollment email inbox, including spam and junk folders. If it is not available within a short time after passing, let us know and we can help.

Does the certificate expire? The certificate itself does not expire. However, the written exam score on it is only valid for 2 years from the date the exam was taken. If more than 2 years pass before the Learner's Permit DPS visit, the written test will need to be retaken at the DPS office. The certificate remains valid — no course retake is needed.

The teen is 14 — can we get the certificate now and use it later? Yes. The certificate can be obtained as soon as Module 1 is complete and the DPS exam is passed, regardless of the teen's age. It can be held and used once the teen turns 15 and is ready to visit the DPS.

Do we need to sign the certificate before the DPS visit? Do not sign the certificate in advance. Some DPS offices require the signature to be completed in the presence of a DPS representative. Wait until instructed at the office.
