Can I Use My Florida BDI Certificate for an Insurance Discount?

Your Florida BDI certificate may qualify you for an auto insurance discount. Contact your insurer to confirm eligibility. Driving Logic does not submit to insurers.

Updated today

Your Florida Basic Driver Improvement (BDI) course certificate may qualify you for a discount on your auto insurance. Insurance discounts are not guaranteed — eligibility depends on your provider and your specific policy.

How to Find Out If You Qualify

Step 1: Contact your insurance provider before enrolling to confirm whether they offer a discount for completing a state-approved Florida BDI course Step 2: Ask what documentation they require and how to submit it Step 3: Complete the course and pass the final exam Step 4: Save the certificate PDF from the email sent after you pass — this is the only copy provided Step 5: Submit your certificate directly to your insurance provider per their instructions

What Driving Logic Does Not Do

Driving Logic does not submit certificates to insurance companies. Driving Logic reports completion to the FLHSMV only. Submitting the certificate to your insurer is your responsibility.

What Discount Can You Expect?

Florida law allows insurance companies to offer a discount of up to 10% for completing a FLHSMV-approved BDI course. The actual discount, eligibility requirements, and duration vary by provider. Not all insurers offer this discount and not all policies qualify. Contact your insurer directly for the specifics of your policy.

A Separate Insurance Benefit Also Exists

If you elected the course in connection with a qualifying citation and the violation is recorded as adjudication withheld (no points), Florida law (§626.9541, F.S.) prohibits your insurer from raising your premium, canceling your policy, or non-renewing it solely because of that traffic infraction. This is a legal protection — separate from a voluntary discount. See: Will the Florida BDI course protect my insurance rates?
