Indiana Driver Safety Program Course: Complete Guide

The Indiana Driver Safety Program course is a BMV-approved online defensive driving course. Completing it applies a 4-point credit to your Indiana driving record. This guide covers everything you need to know from enrollment through completion.

What the Course Is

The Indiana Driver Safety Program course is an online course approved by the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles. It covers defensive driving techniques, Indiana traffic laws, road sharing, and safe driving behaviors across 4 lessons and 24 topics. The course takes a minimum of 4 hours to complete. It is delivered entirely online in English and Spanish — no classroom attendance is required.

Who Needs to Take the Course

Some Indiana drivers are required to take the course. Others choose to take it voluntarily to earn the 4-point credit.

Required by the BMV: Drivers age 21 and older who are convicted of 2 or more traffic offenses within a 12-month period are required to complete the course. Drivers under 21 who are convicted of 2 or more traffic offenses within a 12-month period are also required.

Required by a court: Some courts order drivers to complete a driver safety course. If a court has ordered you to take the course, confirm with your court that the Driving Logic course satisfies your specific requirement before enrolling.

Voluntary enrollment: Any licensed Indiana driver may take the course voluntarily to earn the 4-point credit, regardless of their driving record. The minimum age to enroll is 14.

Cost

The course costs $34.95. This is a one-time payment with no additional fees. Your completion certificate, BMV reporting, and full course access are all included. Driving Logic accepts credit card and Apple Pay at checkout.

How to Enroll

Visit drivinglogic.com, select Indiana Courses, and complete checkout. Your account is created automatically during checkout and you can begin the course immediately after payment is processed. No software or app download is required — the course runs in any modern web browser on a computer, tablet, or smartphone.

How the Course Works

The course is self-paced and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Your progress saves automatically every time you complete a section. You do not need to finish in one sitting — you can log in and out as many times as needed and continue where you left off.

The course is organized into 4 lessons completed in sequence. Each topic must be finished before the next becomes available. There is no separate final exam. The course includes four required lesson quizzes, one after each lesson. You must complete all four lesson quizzes, all required course content, and the in-course survey to complete the course.

Near the end of the course, you will complete a short 5-question survey as part of the normal course flow. The certificate is issued after all required course content, four quizzes and the five-question survey are complete.

To log back in, go to drivinglogic.com, select Log In, and enter the email address and password you created during checkout.

How Long the Course Takes

The course takes a minimum of 4 hours to complete. Timed sections ensure you cannot move through the material faster than the minimum required time. Most drivers complete the course in 4 to 6 hours. You do not need to finish in one sitting and there is no limit on the number of sessions or logins.

If the BMV required you to take the course, you have 90 days from the date of your requirement notice to complete it. If you enrolled voluntarily, there is no deadline.

Your Completion Certificate

Your certificate is issued after all required course content, all four lesson quizzes and the required five-question survey are complete. Save the PDF from your certificate email. If the course shows complete and the certificate is missing, check junk or spam and contact support through the chat on your course site.

Reporting to the Indiana BMV

Driving Logic is required to transmit completed online Indiana DSP courses to the BMV within 24 hours, except on observed holidays or days the school is closed for business. Submission and the BMV updating your driving record are separate steps. A certificate does not confirm that your individual report was submitted or processed. If your BMV record does not show your completion, contact support through the chat on your course site. Tell us when you completed the course, what the BMV record or notice says, and whether you have an approaching deadline. You do not need to wait through another standard processing period before asking us to check.

If a court required you to complete the course, Driving Logic reports to the BMV only — not to courts. Any submission required by your court is your responsibility.

The 4-Point Credit

Completing the course applies a 4-point credit to your Indiana driving record. This credit offsets points currently on your record; it does not remove individual violations. Check your actual record for the credit. If it is missing, ask support to check the reporting status.

You can earn the 4-point credit once every 3 years. If you complete the course again before 3 years have passed, no additional credit is applied, but the 3-year clock resets from the new completion date.

Refunds

Driving Logic offers a full refund within 30 days of purchase if your completion certificate has not been issued. Let us know and we can help. Refunds are processed within 30 days of the request.
