Can I Take the Missouri Driver Improvement Program (DIP) Without a Court Order?

Voluntary enrollment without any approval is not available. However, not all drivers need to appear in court — some drivers qualify for the Missouri Driver Improvement Program through the Fine Collection Center (FCC) without a court appearance.

Two Ways to Get Approved

Court approval — If your traffic case was handled by a judge, you receive DIP approval at your court hearing. This is the most common path for municipal and county police citations. FCC approval — If your citation was issued by a Missouri State Highway Patrol officer and your county is on the FCC-approved list, you may be automatically approved for DIP when you plead guilty and pay your fine to the FCC. No court appearance is required in this case.

If you are not sure which applies to you, contact the court or FCC for the county where your ticket was issued before enrolling.

Voluntary Enrollment Is Not Available

Regardless of which track applies to you, you must receive approval before enrolling. You cannot enroll simply because you want to improve your driving skills or earn an insurance discount.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I qualify for FCC approval instead of a court appearance? FCC approval is available for Missouri State Highway Patrol citations in specific counties. If your ticket was issued by a state trooper, contact the FCC (mofcc.com or 877-866-3926) to confirm whether your county qualifies.

I received a traffic ticket but have not resolved it yet. Can I enroll now? No. You must receive approval — from a court or through the FCC — before enrolling. Do not enroll before your approval is confirmed.

Can I enroll and use the completion for an insurance discount without any approval? No. Enrollment requires prior approval. If you are seeking an insurance discount without a court or FCC requirement, ask your insurer what types of courses qualify and contact us to explore other options.
